Dear Northern Township Property Owner,
The Northern Township Board is writing to inform you that we are exploring the process of incorporation and seeking your input. While this topic has been explored by previous Township Boards, the current Board feels that the timing is right for our Township to take the next steps in becoming a city. Here are a few reasons why.
First, and foremost, we would control our own future as a community for how and where we continue to grow while also maintaining our rural character. Becoming a small rural city, would set our current boundaries and remove the possibility of any further annexation. We would also gain access to different avenues of funding available to cities for use on projects in our community which we currently do not have access to.
We believe that we have a strong case for an Administrative Law Judge to grant our incorporation request. We are currently operating as a small city by providing many services that cities do and have over a million-dollar annual budget. Furthermore, our Township continues to grow and is projected to do so in the future. Our current population (over 4500 from most recent census) would put us in the top 20% of cities in the state for population.
These are just a few of the key reasons that we feel now is the time for our Township to take the next steps toward incorporating, but we also want to know how our fellow residents feel. As such, we have scheduled two meetings for resident input. We would appreciate your attendance and input at one of these meetings at the Northern Town Hall.
Meeting 1: Wednesday, November 2, 2022, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Meeting 2: Wednesday, November 2, 2022, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
If you are unable to attend we would appreciate your input by November 4, 2022, to our email at: nthntwp@paulbunyan.net
Please, reach out to any of us on the Board with questions or comments at any time.
Thank you,
Northern Township Board
