The June 21, 2025 storm was one of the most destructive our community has ever seen, with wind gusts confirmed at over 100 mph. While we are profoundly grateful that no injuries have been reported, we are heart-broken by the extensive damage to homes, trees, and public infrastructure across the Township and the greater Bemidji region.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of local tree services, fire departments, utility crews, law-enforcement officers, local officials, and generous volunteers, all Township roads are now passable. One cluster of trees remains down on Waville Rd.; however, every residence on that stretch can be reached from either the north or south.

Next Steps & Helpful Information
- Debris removal: Our Board will discuss community-wide cleanup options at tomorrow’s regular meeting (Monday, June 23 at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall). We will post details on possible brush drop-sites and curbside pickup as soon as they are finalized.
- Downed power lines: Treat every downed line as live. Report hazards to Beltrami Electric (218-444-2540) or Otter Tail Power (800-257-4044) and call 911 if there is immediate danger.
- Private tree contractors: Verify that any contractor doing work on your property is registered and insured. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture maintains a searchable list of registered tree care professionals.
- Building repairs & permits: If your structure was damaged, please contact our Planning & Zoning office (218-751-4989) before beginning major repairs—some work may require a permit.
- Document your damage: Take photos/video before cleanup begins; most insurers will require this documentation.
- Stay informed: Sign up for Beltrami County’s CodeRED and follow Northern Township’s Facebook page for real-time updates on road closures, potential debris-drop locations, and relief resources.
The scale of fallen timber and general destruction is hard to fathom, but our region has a history of coming together in times of crisis. Thank you to every resident who has checked on a neighbor, cleared a driveway, or provided hot meals to crews. Your generosity is what makes this community strong.
Please continue to stay safe, drive cautiously around work zones, and reach out if you need assistance.
